Scam Alert
When you file for a Trademark with the USPTO, you are required to fill in information about yourself like, Name, Address, Email, Phone, etc. This is all apart of your Application for a Trademark.
The USPTO states that this information will be made Public on their site, along with other information regarding your Trademark application.
This information is Public, on their site, almost immediately after you process your application and pay the fee.
Scam companies regularly search the USPTO website to gather information on Trademark applicants.
They then reach out to you via Email and Text. Usually beginning the next day after you file your application with the USPTO.
They will have similar names to the USPTO, like Trademark Center, etc. They will have official sounding companies and titles like, Examining Attorney, etc.
It takes 8 to 9 months before the USPTO even opens your application. Any correspondence prior to that time frame is usually a Scam Company wanting you to pay extra fees.
Delete these emails and texts immediately and do not engage with these companies.
Always check the Email address of the sender. USPTO emails end with .gov and anything else is a Scam company. Some Scam companies even use gmail as their email service.
After 8 or 9 months, a real Examining Attorney from the USPTO will email you about your application and go over a few things about it.
