Contraband Waterpark Volleyball Tournament
July 18th, 2025 - Noon to 4pm at the Bumpy Pickle
Contraband presents the Waterpark Lifeguard Volleyball Tournament for Houston-area waterpark lifeguards. The tournament is organized and facilitated by SPORTSKIND. They will handle the sign-ups, referees, bracket, trophies, event photography, etc.
The tournament will be held at the Bumpy Pickle near downtown Houston (see address below). There will be food and drinks available for purchase.
There will be 24 teams invited from the 12 Houston-area waterpark facilities, 2 teams from each facility. These 24 teams include 2 from Galveston. Each team will consist of two male and two female lifeguards. Each team should wear their waterpark uniforms to play in.

The sign-up fee is $200 per team, which is $50 per player. For this, each team will be entered in a Double-Elimination bracket to vye for the Title of Best Lifeguard Volleyball Team in the Houston area. Part of the sign-up fees go to SPORTSKIND to cover the costs to run this tournament. A portion of the entry fees will go to a Houston-based children's charity called The STORM Foundation Contraband receives no part of the entry fees.
There will be First and Second place trophies. And the team members of each 1st & 2nd place team will receive a Pizza Party at Nick's Place in Houston. The First Place team will receive some Contraband merchandise.
In addition to SPORTSKIND providing photography services, The STORM Factory will also be covering the event with photos and videos. Prior to the tournament beginning, there will be team photos taken for each team. The media that The STORM Factory captures will be loaded the evening of the tournament and available for free downloading and sharing here.
There will be Media Outlets covering this event so it will be a great opportunity to get exposure and promotion for your waterpark facility.

Contraband Founder, Spider Michaels, was a Waterpark Lifeguard Supervisor for 13 years at Six Flags WaterWorld, which was located next to Six Flags AstroWorld. During his years as a Lifeguard Supervisor, he was on a Lifeguard Competition team that won 15 consecutive lifeguarding championships. He was on the team for 13 of those championships.
As well as compete for WaterWorld, he also coached an undefeated lifeguard softball team. In addition, he hosted and competed in an annual summertime Volleyball Tournament for the waterparks in Houston. This was a few decades ago, but Spider Michaels has decided to revive the Waterpark Lifeguard Volleyball Tournament.
